On August 6, 2020, the opening ceremony of Afro-Asian Council of the Ophthalmology Asia Office (AACO-AO) was held in National HI-TECK Zone Huanghuagang SCI-TECK Park, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, China. The opening ceremony was presided over by Prof Haotian Lin, Director of the Afro-Asian Council of Ophthalmology Asia Office (AACO-AO) and Deputy Director of Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (ZOC), Sun Yat-sen University, China. It is hoped that the Afro-Asian Council of Ophthalmology Asia Office (AACO-AO) will promote international exchanges and cooperation in Afro-Asian countries under AACO. Prof Lezheng Wu (President of the Afro-Asian Council of Ophthalmology), Xi Chen (Deputy Head of Yuexiu District, Guangzhou) and Zhibin Yao (President of Guangdong Medical Association, China) also addressed.

The Afro-Asian Council of Ophthalmology is a large ophthalmic academic organization with the longest history across Asia and Africa. Since its establishment for more than 60 years, it has actively organized academic exchange activities and held ophthalmic conferences in 16 countries, including Egypt, India, Pakistan, China, Turkey, and Morocco, and so on. The headquarters of the Afro-Asian Council of Ophthalmology is located in Cairo, Egypt. The Afro-Asian Council of Ophthalmology Asia Office (AACO-AO) is located in Guangzhou, China, the new medical plateau within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
