With the aim of building a research platform that integrates industry and academia, the Internet AI diagnosis and treatment technology research and application data center for ophthalmology was built in Huanghuagang Science and Technology Park, Yuexiu District. It has become the supporting platform of Afro-Asian Ophthalmology Council Asia Office(AACO-AO). Consisting of more than 50 medical and computer professors, the medical AI technology research team was supported by Tianhe No.2 of Zhongshan University Supercomputing Center.
As COVID-19 spread across the globe, the ophthalmic Internet AI diagnosis and treatment technology has been put into use. Zhongshan Ophthalmic Center (ZOC) set up the internet hospital on February 1st 2020. The AI technology has been fully utilized to provide patients in need with ophthalmologist consultation and AI Q&A services for free across China including Hubei province. The patients are able to receive eye efficient and accurate examinations, and get real-time diagnosis and treatment recommendations from ophthalmologists during the epidemic, which reduced cross-infection caused by patients gathering at hospitals. In February 2020 alone, more than 13000 patients has been benefited from the service.
Promoting the ophthalmology development in all countries of “One Belt One Road", not only should we upgrade the Internet AI diagnosis and treatment technology research and application data center for ophthalmology as the model of industry-academic-research within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, but also we need to introduce Chinese medical science and technology and provide service abroad through international academic organization of ophthalmology.
Founded in Egypt in 1958, AACO is a large intercontinental ophthalmic academic organization across Asia and Africa. The AACO-AO was established in Huanghuagang National Science and Technology Park, Yuexiu District, Guangzhou in 2019.
As the supporting platform of AACO-AO, the ophthalmic Internet AI diagnosis and treatment technology R & D and application data center will make full use of the advantages of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, where it is endowed with rich resources in science and technology, administration, commerce and trade, finance, education, medical treatment, etc. It will carry out innovative research, research application and academic exchange activities openly with international talents, so as to further promote the ophthalmology development in China as well as every country of “One Belt One Road”, striving to improve more people’s health and promote the friendship between countries. We are confident to become a model of ‘industry-academia-research’ integration in the field of ophthalmology, supported by emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
